A WELLINGTON teenager has been taking the stage by storm with a series of starring performances in shows across the region.

Cathy Vicarage, 15, won both the Cinderella Awards’ Best Young Animal Act - and brought home the Bradford Trophy, for her performance as Jiminy Cricket in the Bradford Players pantomime of Pinocchio - at Weston-super-Mare’s Winter Gardens on May 30.

Cathy’s mother, Emma, said: “The Bradford Players contributed this trophy over 20 years ago so it was lovely that she won it while being a part of this group.

“Whilst Cathy appreciates that Awards are not the reason she performs (she does it to entertain audiences) she is delighted, obviously, when somebody who has greater experience than herself, acknowledges her for her achievement.”

Cathy collected her first accolade two years ago when she played the King of Hearts for Wellington Pantomime Group’s Alice in Wonderland.

This award was for Cinderella Awards’ Young Comic of the Year – and she received a further nomination for the Bradford Trophy, the award for the overall best performance for someone aged 16 or under.

Last autumn, she went on to collect the Phoebe Rees’ Award for Best Actress in a Cameo, for the role of the Tailor in Taunton Thespians’ open-air tour of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew.

Cathy is currently taking a break from the stage, with school exams looming – but will be back for pantomime at Bradford-on-Tone in February 2016.
