THE body of a teenager hit by a train was not found until the following day, an inquest in Taunton was told today (Wednesday, October 7).

Police were called to the railway line at Nynehead, near Wellington, after Cameron Hawkins, 19, was heard saying: “I’m suicidal on the train tracks.”

Joshua Enwright, who had been walking his dogs, told the inquest: “I called the police. Shortly after a train went through and I heard nothing more.”

John Wilson, from British Transport Police, said Cameron’s body was found in the early hours of Monday, December 8 last year, after he was apparently hit by a train at around 9.25pm the previous evening.

He added that he was not surprised Cameron’s body was not discovered immediately, despite a police helicopter joining the search, due to the “rural location and his body being in a very difficult spot”.

Earlier the inquest heard Cameron lived with his brother in Penny Close, Wellington, but was struggling with debts, while their home was neglected following the death of their father months before.

Although he had been treated for acute paranoia, there were no fears that he was a suicide risk.

Acting senior Coroner for West Somerset Tony Williams said Cameron died from multiple trauma with massive head injury, concluding that he took his own life.
