Fire crews from Wellington together with the heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor were called out to a report of three people trapped after a crash near Wellington this morning.

The call for help just after 4am came from the ambulance service following the collision at the A38 Chelston Roundabout Junction with Summerfield Way, Chelston.

The two vehicle head on crash had left two people trapped in one vehicle and one person trapped in the other.

All three casualties were medically, not physically trapped, and fire fighters set to work making initial access for the paramedics, before stabilising the vehicles in preparation for extrication.

By 5am the crews had extricated one casualty from the first vehicle and helped paramedics with the second vehicle and casualties.

By 5.30am crews using hydraulic cutting equipment extricated the second and third casualties from the second vehicle, after removing the doors.

All three casualties were left in the hands of paramedics, whilst crews made both vehicles safe.
