A WIVELISCOMBE couple are holding a race night at Oake Manor golf club next month to raise money for charity.

Last year, Kayte Kelly took part in the Walk of Britain for charity Walking with the Wounded who support wounded ex-service men and women, disadvantaged by mental or physical injury.

Kayte's husband Paul was in the Royal Marines for 18 years and he is this year running the London Marathon for the charity.

But Kayte also wanted to find a way to help as well.

She said: "I work for William Grant and Sons and last year one of our brands Glenfiddich wanted a volunteer to do the walk.

"My husband was in the Royal Marines for 18 years, so I jumped at the chance.

"I spent around 150 miles with the team over six days walking from Bristol down to Southampton.

"To say the experience changed my life is in no way an exaggeration.

"To spend time with people who were suffering life changing injuries, and seeing how they cope with daily life was truly inspirational.

"During our walk we visited schools, did talks and met some other veterans who were themselves receiving help from WWTW."

Kayte said the experienced opened her eyes to the work the charity does, and on her return felt she couldn't just walk away.

She added: "I asked Ed Parker, Founder of WWTW what I could do to help.
"He asked me if I could run the London Marathon but I can't, so I have recruited my husband Paul.

"But I have organised a race night at Oake Manor Golf Club on Saturday, March 19.

"Every penny we raise goes to the charity, and my employer Glenfiddich is matching every donation pound for pound.

"Thank you to Kamyko, Taunton Funeral Services, W.Hendy & Sons/ Brendon Power Washers, Taunton Fightworx Full Time Martial Arts Academy, Funkin cocktail mixers, Mitchell Clarke Plumbing and The Bear public house,Wiveliscombe, who are sponsoring the race night.

Tickets are £15 each and this includes a hot buffet dinner.
