New stop for Wellington taxi trade

TAXI drivers in the Wellington area will no longer need to make a round trip to Taunton to get their vehicles tested.

Taunton Deane Council has appointed Wellington Motors, based in Chelston Business Park, as its second station for safety testing taxis and private hire vehicles.

The garage joins the Service Centre of Smalls Yard, Taunton, which has been conducting compliances tests for several years.

Hackney Carriage and private hire vehicles must have an MOT and Council compliance test at one of the nominated testing stations before they can be licensed to operate.

Cllr Ken Hayward, of the council, said: “Members of the taxi trade now have an option on who can test their vehicles.

"The announcement will obviously help those in the trade who live and operate in the Wellington area as they can cut down on journeys to Taunton for their tests.”
