Music to the ears in Milverton

The bell ringers The bell ringers

MILVERTON was the venue for the world premiere of Olympic Five Rings last Friday (July 27) – a unique arrangement of four traditional and one new ringing sequences to mark the start of London 2012.

The arranger, Keith Beale, wanted to produce a unique piece of ringing out of the ordinary so that those hearing the bells at 8.12am realised it was something different for a unique occasion.

The three-minute piece was an arrangement of ringing and sounds, from the highest to the lowest note, to a celebratory sequence from the odd and even numbered bells.

The beautiful sounds encouraged crowds to gather in the churchyard, who greeted the bell ringers after their performance.
