Tributes to Wellington Football Club stalwart
11:00am Friday 14th September 2012 in Wellington & Wiveliscombe
Selwyn Aspin
TRIBUTES have been paid to a stalwart of Wellington Football Club, who has died aged 80.
Selwyn Aspin, who died on Wednesday (September 12) was a former first-team manager who served as chairman of the club from 1992 to 2002.
Mr Aspin moved to Wellington from Yorkshire in the 1960s and soon became heavily involved with the club.
A club spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with Selwyn’s family at this sad time. He was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.”
Brian Beer, chairman of the Toolstation League, said: “I’m sad to learn of Selwyn’s passing. I would like to pay tribute to what he did for Wellington Football Club.
“We were stalwarts together in football and he was a great character.”
A minute’s applause in memory of Mr Aspin was held before Wellington’s home match against Chard Town on Wednesday and players wore black armbands.
Mr Aspin's funeral will take place at Taunton Deane Crematorium on Monday, September 24, at 2pm.
