AN UNUSUAL visitor has flown in to Cutcombe First School to teach children about barn owl conservation.
As part of Somerset Wildlife Trust's Community Barn Owl Project, which aims to get a nest box in each parish, Beau the barn owl helped to raise awareness of the scheme.
The project has already visited 52 schools across the county, with more than 1,000 children learning about owls and their habitats through pellet dissection and box-building workshops.
Cutcombe is one of a further 20 lucky schools to benefit from a visit from Beau after Western Power Distribution (WPD) offered to put funding into the scheme.
Tracy Carr from WPD said: “We are delighted to lend our support to this project so that more children across Somerset can meet Beau and gain an understanding into the challenges these wonderful barn owls face in the environment.”
