A LABOUR peer has visited West Somerset Community College to encourage students to engage more with the political and parliamentary process.

Lord Rosser came to the college on the final day of Parliament Week – a national initiative to build greater awareness of democracy in the UK.

Youngsters aged 16 and over heard him speak about the work and role of the House of Lords, before getting involved in a question and answer session on aspects of the parliamentary process and life at Westminster.

Deputy principal Hannah Enticott said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”

The event was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s ‘Peers in Schools’ programme.
