SUNSHINE shone down on participates of the annual Beacon to Beach Fun Run in West Somerset on Sunday.

Organised for the 11th year in a row by the Minehead and the Quantocks Rotary Club, there were more than 200 runners including over 40 relay teams.

Stuart Creech was first home with a time of 38 minutes and nine seconds followed by Chris Palmer and Edward Paull.

Mary Menon won it for the ladies, finishing 21st overall with a time of 42 minutes and 33 seconds. Ben Tull and Charlotte Enright were first in for the under 17s category.

Wiveliscombe Primary dominated the trophies and medals in the relay race finishing first and second in the first and middle school categories followed by Minehead First ‘A’ in third for the first school section and Danesfield in the middle school relay.

A holiday maker from Germany had travelled furthest for the event and there was love in the air when Harry and Beki Saunders-Singer crossed the finish line together, having only got married the day before.

Other members of the wedding party also ran and walked the race.

The event follows a seven mile course over Selworthy Beacon finishing outside the Minehead Cricket Club Pavilion.

A barbecue, bar, bouncy castle and ice cream greeted participants at the finish line.

Proceeds from the event go towards helping the rotary club sustain their projects with local schools and charities.

A spokesperson said: “The rotary club would like to thank all marshals and helpers, the cricket club, Tramps, St John Ambulance and the police for their assistance.

“Thank you also to our sponsors C.J. Lynch and Sons, Morris and Co. Carpets, Maitland Walker Solicitors, Tony Pryce Sports and Harvey Jones Menswear.
