PEPPA Pig was the star of the show at this year's Party in the Park in Blenheim Gardens, Minehead.

The children's cartoon character made a guest appearance at the annual event which is organised by the Rotary Club of Minehead and the Quantocks.

The shining sun saw record numbers of nearly 1000 people turning out to enjoy the event.

Stalls and attractions including a bouncy castle, storytelling and live music keep visitors entertained.

The event has raised around £850 for the Children's Hospice South West. Delia Paveling, organiser, said: “I have never seen so many people enjoying themselves in the gardens.

“The crowds just kept coming on in, “As well as local families and holiday makers, there were more people this year that had travelled here from further afield.”

The audience enjoyed performances from youngsters taking part in the Young Musician competition, which was won by Jade Ely from Minehead. Erica James-Allen from Watchet was the winner of the Peppa Pig drawing and colouring competition, winning a family day ticket for the West Somerset Railway Peppa Pig Day on September 20.

Delia added: “This is the fourth similar rotary event held in the gardens. “Stall holders have already asked to return next year, and the children want to know if Peppa Pig will be back.

“If the musicians are happy to volunteer their services again, the event looks all set to be a regular feature of the holiday weekend.”
