THE second annual art exhibition at Minehead’s Old Vic gallery came to a close with a large offering of work by Exmoor Arts, attracting a record number of visitors.

Victoria Ward, series co-ordinator, said: “This year, 33 local artists and three community groups exhibited in the gallery and we hope to be able to showcase more work again next year.

“Once again, we had equal amounts of visits from tourists and locals alike, many people coming every week to see the next exhibition.”

Minehead Vision manager, Stephen Hooper said: “Footfall has increased from 3,000 in 2013 to 5,000 in 2014 and artists are already asking to book for 2015.

“Last year’s exhibition by the Museum Group was the catalyst for establishing the permanent museum in the former Steamers Bar which has also attracted in excess of 5,000 visits so far this season.

“We will now be exploring the viability of a more permanent gallery in the former seafront visitor centre to further enhance the town’s offer to cultural tourists.”
