TANUKI, the Raccoon dog from Tropiquaria who has been missing since early Saturday morning is back home safe, much to the relief of the zoo. Zoological director Chris Mosier said the act of releasing the animal from its enclosure in the Watchet Zoo was "crass stupidity" due to its location which is in the heart of the badger cull area. She was collected by the directors from Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre at East Huntspill last night (September 14), after she was found sniffing at a fox carcass. Mr Moiser added: “We are ever so pleased to have her back and have now placed her in a different enclosure to the one that she was in originally whilst we assess her condition. "Although she appears fit and well at present we cannot be sure what she has eaten whilst out, or what she wild animal diseases she may have come into contact with. "Fortunately she is immunized against the most common ones though." Police are investigating the incident as Tanuki was either set free by someone late on Friday evening/early Saturday morning. Anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident number 94947/14.
