OVER £100,000 could be won to create a new play area in Cuckoo Meadow, Minehead, if residents give their views, says West Somerset Council.

The council is asking residents, including children, to share their views on what is needed to create a play area, to unlock more cash.

The information is vital to the success of a substantial Big Lottery bid which could help fund the play facilities, say the council.

Cllr Anthony Trollope-Bellew said: “We hope local people will take part in this consultation as this bid could bring in over £100,000 to Cuckoo Meadow through organised activities and new play equipment if the Stage Two application is successful with the Big Lottery.”

Residents are asked to visit Sainsbury Hall in Sainsbury Road on October 2 between 4.15pm and 6.45pm to vote for the equipment and activities they would like in the play area if the Big Lottery application is successful.

The council has been working with the community, Minehead Town Council and other organisations to re-develop the play area off Whitworth Road.

A survey revealed that people want more organised activities on the site and local youth provision.

The top three equipment choices were swings, slides and equipment which rotates, while goalposts were also requested, along with a picnic area and outdoor gym equipment.

The information was used to submit a Stage One bid to the Big Lottery, and in the summer it confirmed that the proposal had been approved for Stage Two.
