A MINEHEAD optician has introduced a new free pilot service to help people in the community diagnosed with sight loss.

Cranmers Optometrists in Park Street has developed the Low Vision Therapy service to help patients.

Othoptist Julie Dyer will be running the clinic and will be on hand to talk through the effect a sight loss diagnoses can have on day-to-day life and give advice on practical solutions.

If appropriate she will also be able to refer patients on to other support networks.

Kate Webb, partner at Cranmers Optometrists, said: “As a local business that cares for the eye health of Minehead citizens, we feel it is very important to add Low Vision Therapy to our services.

“While we pride ourselves on offering our patients the best possible care, it is also vital to recognise the psychological impact of sight loss.

“Our new clinic will provide that extra level of support and care so we can be certain our patients have the knowledge and skills they need following diagnosis.”
