THE Court of Appeal is set to rule this week on whether the Government has acted unlawfully by not using an Independent Expert Panel to monitor the second round of badger culls.
The case was brought by the Badger Trust and a one-day hearing was held last Thursday.
The Badger Trust argues that without an IEP there can be no proper assessment of the safety, effectiveness and humaneness of the culling operation.
Commenting on the Court of Appeal hearing, Dominic Dyer, chief executive of the Badger Trust and policy advisor at Care for the Wild, said: “The refusal of the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary of State Elizabeth Truss to put in place any independent monitoring of the badger culls currently being undertaken in Somerset and Gloucestershire is a national disgrace.”
