SELFLESS people from across the South West were awarded for their invaluable help towards the South West Lakes Trust at a ceremony in Cornwall.

Trust patron Lady Mary Holborow congratulated and thanked the volunteers, saying: “As a former trustee I share the current trustees’ enthusiasm and gratitude for your achievements.

“We achieve so much more by working with you, our volunteers.

"We are here today to celebrate your endeavours and to offer our deep and sincere thanks to you all.”

A presentation was given by Jacqui Edwards, trustee of the South West Lakes Trust followed by a moving video about the work of Queen’s Award recipients Fly Fishing for Life movement.

They help people with breast cancer through angling and the group started at Wimbleball Lake.

Award nominees received a certificate and also had a tree dedicated to them at either Roadford or Wimbleball’s Celebration Woodlands.

Category winners were also presented with an honorary Friends of the Trust year’s membership and a Queen’s Award for Enterprise commemorative mug.

More than 70 people attended the awards ceremony including trustees, staff, volunteers and Friends of the Trust.

Evelyn Stacey, chief executive said: “To volunteer is a great opportunity to gain experience and access training.

“We are so proud that last year South West Lakes Trust accumulated nearly 3000 days of assistance by volunteers and in return 154 days of training were offered in relevant skills
