EXPLORER Sea Scout Alice Martin from the 1st Watchet Sea Scout Group spent five days with the Royal Navy taking an Air Acquaintance Course.
Alice was one of only ten young people selected from hundreds of applicants from Royal Navyrecognised Sea Scout Groups and combined cadet and sea cadet units from around the country to take part in the course at the Royal Navy Air Station (RNAS) in Yeovilton.
Alice took on a variety of ground-based activities and lessons as well as learning about air traffic control and using flight simulators before being able to take to the skies with an instructor and take the controls of the Military Grob two-seater.
Alice, who aspires to be a pilot and comes from a family with a flying background, said she thoroughly enjoyed her time at the airbase and having the chance to take on several takeoffs and landings during her time in the air.
The 1st Watchet Sea Scout Group is a Royal Navyrecognised Sea Scout group, one of only 104 such Sea Scout groups in the UK, and receives privileges including access to Royal Navy establishments as well as courses and opportunities such as this flying course.
