REGULARS from Roadwater’s Valiant Soldier Inn have donated a cheque for £1,000 to the RNLI in Minehead.
Derek Williams, of the RNLI, who is standing down after organising the organisation’s Blue Anchor to Minehead raft race after more than 30 years, was on hand to receive the cheque.
Much of the money raised was through sponsorship by the three Valiant Soldier teams who entered this year’s raft race.
They also raised money through a skittles week, quiz nights and participation in the annual Beacon to Beach run.
Minehead RNLI chairman Bryan Stoner said the station owed a huge debt to the Valiant Soldier’s rafters and customers.
“At a time when most charities in the country are facing real challenges on the fundraising front it’s tremendously gratifying and encouraging for the crew to know locals’ support for the work of the RNLI is as strong as this,” he said.
“The Valiant Soldier teams have become a fixture in the raft race and are among its keenest supports, but when it comes to fundraising they really are well ahead of the field.
“We’e hugely grateful for them for their continuing support.”
