WESSEX Water is due to finish work in Dunster two weeks ahead of schedule.

The regional water service business has been carrying out work since January 5 to replace two major water mains in West Street which have suffered from numerous bursts.

This week, all the new water mains have been successfully connected to the existing network and they now plan to be off site on March 13.

The water main improvements was planned to coincide with work to improve the highways. The traffic restrictions will be removed from West Street, however, Church Street will remain closed while SCC complete their highway works.

Church Street will not open until the original date scheduled, March 20. A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “The ongoing scheme in Dunster is a major joint operation to carry out several pieces of work under one single road closure.

“We’re pleased Wessex Water’s work is coming to an end as planned and the next step is for other utility firms such as BT and Western Power to carry out their work while the road remains closed.

“The resurfacing was always due to take place once all the other work was finished and is planned to start on 20 March.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience so far and please be assured we will be working hard to complete this work as scheduled by the end of the month.”
