A WOMAN has been taken to hospital after a serious accident between a car and a lorry on the A39 between Nether Stowey and Holford.

Police and fire crews were called to the incident at 5.43am this morning (June 2) which happened west of the quarry near Nether Stowey.

A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service said the woman, believed to be in her 30s, was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with face injuries, pelvis injuries and a fractured leg.

The injuries were possibly life-threatening.

A male was also taken the hospital in Taunton with neck pains.

The road was closed both ways until just before 1pm.

There were delays and traffic was slow on surrounding roads.

One fire appliance from Williton and one from Nether Stowey along with the Rescue Tender from Taunton were sent to this incident.

Upon arrival crews confirmed road traffic collision involving HGV and one car with one driver severely trapped.

Crews set to work using stabilising equipment to stabilise the vehicle and two sets of hydraulic rescue equipment to extricated casualty from vehicle.

One casualty released from vehicle and conveyed to hospital via ambulance.
