PUPILS from Minehead Middle School went for a walk - and raised £1700 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thirty-seven Year 8 girls, and a number of staff, were sponsored for the 10 mile walk for life along Grabbist, taking in Dunster Beach and Minehead, to raise money for the cancer charity, which they have supported every year.

Middle School Teacher, Nicky Gibbs, who organised the walk, said: "The girls were absolutely amazing and the amount they raised between them is staggering, I am so proud of them and overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity.

"It was a pretty hard and fast hike but nobody complained. We laughed and chatted the whole way, the atmosphere was tremendous.”

Macmillan Cancer Support’s area manager, Toby Fielder who collected a cheque from the school, added: "Thank you Minehead Middle School girls for raising such a fantastic amount of money, not many reach that amount by undertaking one fundraiser.”
