POLICE say they are following "several lines of inquiry" after a woman was sexually assaulted in Minehead.

They have also appealed for witnesses to the attack which took place around 2.40am last Saturday, August 1 in Frownes Road in the town.

The woman had left Lloyds Bar in the early hours and walked along Friday Street, Townsend Road, Alcombe Road and Fownes Road.

A police spokesman said: "At approximately 2.40am whilst on Frownes Road she was grabbed from behind by a man and was sexually assaulted.

"During the incident they moved down Frownes Road towards the playing fields."

Police described the suspect as of Asian or Indian appearance, approximately 5’10-11’’ with an athletic build. He had either a bald or shaven head and his face was clean shaven. He was wearing a light blue polo type T shirt and jeans.

"We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the suspect or who may be able to identify him," added the spokesman.
