A blaze broke out at Butlin's Holiday Resort in Minehead, causing extensive damage to one of the flats on the complex.

The fire is believed to have been started accidentally on the ground floor bedroom of the building on Thursday evening (August 13).

Two crews from Minehead arrived to find large amounts of black smoke coming from the building and requested extra resources, with crews from Williton and Porlock, as well as an Incident Command Unit from Wiveliscombe arriving shortly afterwards.

The fire caused extensive damage to the first floor flat, and partial damage to the one above it and all other six flats in the apartment complex were damaged by heat and smoke.

One female casualty was rescued from the property and an ambulance was requested due to smoke inhalation.

The fire was successfully extinguished by the crew by 9pm who used four breathing apparatus, two main jets, three hose reel jets, a triple extension ladder and two thermal imaging cameras.
