FOXES ACADEMY in Minehead is the subject of a new Channel 5 documentary series which has its first episode on air next Thursday night (September 3) at 10pm.

The show, called Special Needs Hotel, will follow the stories of the young staff at the unique hotel who live with a wide range of disabilities.

The three part series, told largely from the students’ point of view, will look at those just beginning at the hotel, plus others in their final year gearing up for jobs outside Foxes and facing the challenge of living independently.

Michelle Chappell, Channel 5 Commissioning Editor: Factual, News and Current Affairs, said: “The Special Needs Hotel is a wonderful place which offers opportunities to people with learning disabilities.

"It’s a celebration of the human spirit, diversity and fulfilling potential. I know we will all feel enriched watching this series and we are honoured that Foxes trust Channel 5 with their story.”

The show will follow recent success stories including Olivia who, despite having Downs Syndrome, is now working two jobs in catering, and autistic Dan, who will take part in the Special Olympics next year.

Foxes Academy have had plenty to celebrate recently after announcing that 79% of their 2014 leavers have found work.

Principal Tracey Claire-Gray said: "You can’t change the system so we believe in changing young lives.

"By training our students in a real hotel youngsters gain skills which ensure they are able to get a meaningful job in the hospitality industry when they leave us."
