One of Britain’s best known steam locomotives will be guesting at the West Somerset Railway’s Autumn Steam Gala which take place from October 1st to 4th.

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust ‘Tornado’ has featured widely in television and in the press and is popular on heritage railways.

The Gala will also feature a further pair of guest engines in the form of Great Western Railway heavy freight engine 2857 which will be making its first ever appearance on the West Somerset and Great Western 7812 “Erlestoke Manor”.

West Somerset Railway General Manager Paul Conibeare commented "We know from past experience and the visit of the engine earlier this year that the days when "Tornado” will be in action will be very popular with both our staff and the passengers on the Railway and we are looking forward to seeing this wonderful machine once again and the supporters of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust who are now funding the construction of a P2 express locomotive to be called “Prince of Wales”.”

Other attractions along the route of the line will include model railways, museums, and at the weekend workshop openings. On Sunday October 4th children aged 5 to 15 will be able to travel for a flat fare of £2 if accompanied by a full fare paying adult or senior citizen.
