Rural West Somerset residents could get a helping hand to get around after it was announced a new motorcycle rental scheme is to be rolled out in the region.

Devon Wheels 2 Work is a social enterprise that aims to provide affordable scooter and motorcycle loans to individuals, allowing them to access work, education and training by providing subsidised scooter and motorcycle rental.

A spokesman for Devon Wheels 2 Work said: "This means that individuals living or working anywhere in the area it covers have access to affordable, flexible, independent transport when they may live or work in areas not served by public transport and are looking for a cost effective transport solution."

Following the closure of the Somerset Rural Youth Project’s Moped Loan Scheme earlier in 2015, Devon Wheels 2 Work decided to make its services available to people living or working in Somerset.

This will initially be for the West Somerset, Taunton Deane and South Somerset districts, but it hopes to be able to extend the coverage at a later date.

In return for a weekly fee, Devon Wheels 2 Work provides a taxed, insured, fully maintained and serviced 50cc moped or 125cc scooter or motorcycle.

Wheels 2 Work is open to anyone aged 16 or over that holds at least a provisional driving licence and a current Compulsory Basic Training Certificate. For more information please visit www.devonwheels2work.co.uk, or contact us on 01409 253942 or admin@devonwheels2work.co.uk.
