PARTYGOERS have been warned of the dangers of ecstasy following the death of a middle-aged woman who took the drug during a night out at Butlin’s, in Minehead.

Yvonne Maxwell, aged 47, started to talk without making any sense after taking ecstasy during a soul weekend event, an inquest in Taunton heard today (Wednesday, October 7).

In a written statement, her partner Toni Economides said he didn’t feel any different after taking some of the ecstasy, but said he took Ms Maxwell outside, where they sat on a bench as she was feeling unwell.

“We started to walk back towards our hotel. She was wobbling on her feet and she couldn’t get up.”

Ms Maxwell was rushed to Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital, but she failed to recover and died the following day, May 10 this year, the hearing was told.

Acting senior coroner for West Somerset Tony Williams gave the cause of death as drug toxicity, recording a conclusion of accidental death.

He said: “This highlights once again the very real potentially fatal consequences that may result any time someone chooses to take ecstasy.

“Ecstasy isn’t a risk free drug and can unpredictably cause death.”
