COASTGUARD rescue teams saved a man stuck in the mud at Blue Anchor beach on Friday.

Minehead RNLI's D class was launched at 3.20pm to assist him and were able to extract the man who was stuck up to his armpits in the bay.

With the help of fire crews and a special rescue team from Bridgwater they safely brought him ashore.

When the tide was completely out, coastguard rescue teams used a special mud raft to retrieve the casualty while the RNLI crew were on hand in case the tide turned and headed back toward the victim.

The man was treated at the scene before being taken to a secure unit at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
