MINEHEAD is all set for New Year boost with the opening of the new Community Employment Hub on January 29.

The hub, called The Bridge will run weekly Friday sessions from 9.30am to noon on a Friday and is the third to open in West Somerset with the aim of helping local people find work, improve and enhance key skills and confidence.

West Somerset has suffered recent job losses and the hubs will provide practical help and support for people looking for work.

Staffed by trained volunteers, the hubs will help people access advertised vacancies and link with local businesses to assess their employment needs, whether for full or part time staff, apprentices or work experience.

The team will also be able to help with online job applications, provide advice on writing or updating CVs and offer interview preparation.

Cllr Karen Mills, lead member for economic regeneration and tourism, said: “The ambition to establish another employment hub has now been realised with the provision in Minehead.

“I am so impressed with how quickly this has been achieved so this support can now be extended more widely. Well done to all concerned especially to all those volunteers who have really made this happen.”

No first appointment is required so if you are want to find out more about job prospects just turn up between 9.30 and 12.30 on Tuesdays at Williton Children’s Centre in Killick Way, 9.30 – 12.30 on Thursdays at the Sanctuary in Swain Street, Watchet, and 9.30 – 12.00 on Fridays at the Hub at Hopcott Road, Minehead.

You can also ring your hub of choice between those times on these days: the numbers are Williton 01984 635980, Watchet 01984 24169 and Minehead 01643 707598.

Volunteers are always needed at the hubs so if you feel you could help people in your community please contact the hubs or Colleen Blake, Employment and Skills Officer at West Somerset Council 07739958441.
