THEY may have only been in Minehead for two years but already hoteliers Andy and Sue Page have become enthusiastic lifeboat supporters.

And now they’ve handed over their first major contribution: £350 raised through a fundraising dinner and donations made by their guests staying at Tregonwell House, in Tregonwell Road.

The cheque, presented to crew members at the weekend, means local RNLI fundraising has already topped £1,500 just a few weeks into 2016 with the crew’s first major event, the lifeboat dance on March 5th set to raise even more.

Last year RNLI fundraising in and around Minehead brought in more than £30,000 – covering roughly a third of the station’s annual running costs.

Minehead RNLI chairman Bryan Stoner said the support of the local tourism sector was particularly important.

“We’ve started to exploit the potential of the station itself as a tourist attraction so the more contact we can make with people who are visiting Minehead and West Somerset the better,” he said.
