WILLITON firefighter Erin Fairhead has become the fastest woman ever to run a marathon in full fire kit.
Erin completed the London Marathon in 4 hours 9 minutes and 32 seconds, beating the previous record of 5 hours 38 minutes.
She said: “I finished more quickly than I thought I would but it was hard and my feet are hurting so I’m planning to rest for a couple of days.
“It was an amazing atmosphere and everyone was really encouraging, I don’t think a minute went past without someone patting me on the back and saying well done.”
The record has been confirmed by Guinness World Records, after its officials checked Erin’s kit complied with the record attempt before and after the event.
Erin has raised £2,665 for the Fire Fighters Charity and donations can be made by going to www.justgiving.com/erinfairhead.
