WATCHET residents packed into the town for the inaugural Street Fair celebrating May Day.

The fair featured all sorts of stalls from vintage clothing to craft to delicious food stalls, including popcorn and pancakes.

The celebrate May Day, the first Street Fair included a maypole and dancers from Knights Templar school and visitors had the chance to try out maypole dancing for themselves!

The Street Fair also had music from various local bands, who added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Each month there will be a particular theme for the Street Fair with associated food offerings and entertainment. The themes will be:

Sunday 5th June - Royal Street Fair

Sunday 3rd July - American Day Street Fair

Sunday 7th August - Sand & Sea Street Fair

Sunday 4th September - Indian Summer Street Fair

Sunday 2nd October - Apple Sunday Street Fair

Sunday 6th November - Autumn Leaves Street Fair

The organisers of the events, Watchet Coastal Communities Team is made up of local people, businesses and organisations in Watchet and includes Town Council, District Council, Watchet Chamber of Trade, Onion Collective CIC, Conservation Society, Market House Museum, West Somerset Railway, Watchet Boat Owners Association and other local business representatives.

The Street Fairs aim to attract more visitors to Watchet, celebrate local festivities, as well as helping to support

start-up businesses in the area.

Watchet Conservation Society’s Molly Quint said: “The new Street Fairs will bring entertainment and life into Watchet, we have been bowled over by the support from local traders to the extent that we have had to find more pitches for the stall holders to go, which means that it should be a wonderful event full of interest and life and music.”

If you are interested in booking a pitches for future Street Fairs they will be from £15 with a gazebo and £5 without.

Street Fairs will be held on the first Sunday of every month, and set-up times will be from 9am – 6pm.
