A 10-YEAR-OLD boy has been knocked down by a bus outside Minehead Middle School.

The school has confirmed that the boy's injuries are not life-threatening.

Head teacher Paul Rushforth confirmed the boy had been riding a scooter to school when the incident happened.

"The air ambulance was here this morning but was not used as the boy’s injuries were thankfully not life-threatening," Mr Rushforth said.

The boy was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with head injuries in a road ambulance following the incident.

Mr Rushforth added: "It is good to hear the injuries are not life-threatening, although he is going to be sore. We look forward to welcoming him back to school quite soon.

"We have asked parents not to allow their children to use their scooters to get to school, as it is self-evidently likely to lead to an accident."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at 8.45am to reports of a collison involving boy and a bus this morning on King Edward Road.

"A 10-year-old boy has been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with head injuries and enquiries are ongoing."

A South West Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called to a road traffic collison between a vehicle and a pedestrian at 8.40am this morning.

"One male casualty is conscious and breathing, and the air ambulance is also in attendance."
