THE streets of Minehead had an unexpected visitor when a young deer found his way into town.
The lost deer was spotted in Quay Lane around 11am on Monday and made his way through Blenheim Gardens and down to the beach.
Local authorities were inundated with calls from residents concerned for the young creature, with calls going in to the RSPCA, Exmoor National Park, the police and town and district councils.
West Somerset District Councillor Mandy Chilcott was in Blenheim Gardens at the time.
"On arriving at the park it was a beautiful day, sun shining, lots of people chatting, having a coffee, children playing, then as I looked around the deer sauntered across the gardens, stopping in the flower bed for a photo opportunity, then it wandered off. I know there are many of them in the countryside around us, but it was a beautiful sight to see," she said.
