KILVE residents gathered at the village hall to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

There was a sumptuous buffet provided by the appropriately sounding ‘Winsors Catering’ accompanied by copious amounts of Pimms and apple juice – reflecting the spirit of the Patron’s Lunch taking place on The Mall in London.

The hall was decorated in purple with balloons, bunting and matching floral arrangements in pretty teacups , which helped create a truly ‘royal‘ party atmosphere.

All of Kilve’s nonagenarian residents received a special invitation to the party and we were pleased that Joan Edgington, Mary Tulloch, Phyllis Lemon, Millie Hill and honorary resident Peggie Gwilym-Williams were able to attend.

Grace Thorne, who celebrates her 90th birthday in August this year, was also a guest of honour. The ladies were presented with flower posies.

Mrs Thorne cut the celebration birthday cake on behalf of Kilve, under the benevolent gaze of ‘The Queen’, and everyone present raised their glasses and sang Happy Birthday to Her Majesty, before tucking in to a delicious slice of lemon birthday cake.

Alison Eyles, Chairman of Kilve Village Hall said: "It was such good fun that Kilve cannot wait for an excuse to do this all over again!"
