THE team behind an engineering project at Wimbleball Lake have landed a prestigious award.

The team were among the winners of The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West Civil Engineering Awards 2016.

The Wimbleball Dam project tackled a complex engineering problem with a high-tech solution, using computer-controlled calibration of the grouting mix, along with the careful measures to protect the environment.

The work ensures Wimbleball Lake will continue to provide drinking water for thousands of customers and enjoyment for its many visitors.

This project impressed the judges and won the 'Over £1m Re-engineering Award' for such a fantastic scheme.

The prestigious awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity around the South West. It is a chance for projects and organisations from across the region to showcase the fantastic work that is taking place.

Miranda Housden, ICE South West Regional Director said: “We were delighted to celebrate the achievements of so many local projects at our awards ceremony.

“Collectively, the winning projects are a real showcase of what civil engineering is all about; they include a flood protection scheme, bridge maintenance, new highway, helipad, lighthouse boat landing, cycle route construction, dam, service station and even a marine lake. This is far from an exhaustive list of what civil engineering is all about, but it gives a very good idea of how much it impacts upon everybody’s daily lives.

“I would like to offer my congratulations to all of the winning and highly commended projects; your work is a shining example of civil engineering at its best.”
