HAVE you noticed the strange construction work going on down the seafront in Minehead?

Well it looks as though Minehead is set for its very own version of the London Eye for this summer so you will be able to see the town like never before.

Minehead Events Group, working on a joint venture with Butlins, is pleased to have secured an Observation wheel experience for Minehead seafront, for a temporary period of over this summer – a bird’s eye view of the town, coast and countryside is afforded from this new attraction for West Somerset.

The Butlins Group and holiday company were aware of the disappointment – and gap left in the summer calendar – that the legendary Red Arrows would not be making an appearance in August.

So with the Minehead Events Group they put their heads together and have commissioned an observation wheel – similar to the London Eye – on the seafront.

The wheel, standing 33m (108ft) high is due to operate from Saturday, July 23 for six to eight weeks from 10am-8pm. Tickets will cost £5 for an adult, £4 for children and senior citizens and £15 for a family ticket.

Minehead will have its own version of the famous London Eye for up to eight weeks this summer, and comes as a boost after it was announced the Summer Festival had been cancelled for 2016.

"We are hoping to attract holidaymakers to the area to visit the wheel and help create a vibrant and enjoyable sea front for the summer season," said Butlin's resort director Julian Highfield.

Karen Mills, who sits on the Events Group and is lead member for Economic Regeneration and Tourism for West Somerset District Council said: “The Minehead Events Group has been working hard to secure this sort of amazing attraction for Minehead.

“I am sure that it will draw visitors from far and wide to support the Minehead and local economy, it will be an additional reason to visit this fantastic part of West Somerset.”
