WOODS Bar in Dulverton has been chosen as the winner of a prestigious national award for the seventh year in a row.

The Good Pub Guide has named its National Award Winners for 2017 and Woods Bar has been selected once again as the Wine Pub of the Year.

Landlord Paddy Groves said: "We are delighted to win this award again - in fact it gets better ever year.

"To win it seven years in a row is fantastic and shows our hard work and desire to get the best for our customers.

"People long to come out for something good and we strive not to leave them disappointed.

"It really is a team effort, and I have some great staff here who help make this possible.

"We are lucky enough to have a great group of loyal customers who are willing to be adventurous with their wine choices."

Woods Bar, on Bank's Square, in Dulverton stocks more than 400 wines from all over the world which range in value from £14 a bottle to others worth hundreds of pounds, and the food served in the restaurant is produced on Mr Groves' 100-acre farm.

Mr Groves said he was delighted to receive recognition from such a reputable organisation as The Good Pub Guide.

"In this day and age it is very easy to hop on social media and offer praise or criticism it is a real honour to be awarded an accolade by a body who review in a traditional way," Mr Groves said.

Each year the editors of The Good Pub Guide also carry out a national survey of beer prices and this year, the survey revealed an increase in the average price of a pint.

The survey found that in Somerset the average pint cost £3.44, not as cheap as Hertfordshire at £3.21 but significantly less than London's £4.08 average.
