THE widow of a Second World War hero from Dulverton accepted a Legion of Honour award on his behalf.
The decoration was presented to Kate Lines, widow of the late John Lines, a HO Marine who served on the Dreadnought Battleship HMS Erebus during the D Day landings.
The award was presented by the vice chief of the defence staff, Sir Gordon Messenger, at a special gathering of the Mid Devon branch of the Royal Marines Association on Sunday, September 11.
Mr Lines died on April 27 of this year in the knowledge that he had been awarded the decoration but sadly he did not live to receive it.
Mr and Mr Lines have been residents of Dulverton for many years and have been continually involved with the Mid Devon RMA.
