THE HM Coastguard Search and Rescue teams from Watchet and Minehead have been busy over the last week.

On Thursday evening the Watchet team were called to a report of three persons cut off by the rough tide at Blue Anchor.

Arriving on scene the coastguards found that one of the three adults had been able to wade ashore, but the other two were trapped below the walls of the Blue Anchor Inn near to the rock armour and were in danger of being swept away.

A fisherman who had spotted the pair managed to throw them a rope and managed to get them to hold onto it whilst he took hold from above.

The Coastguard were soon on scene and performed a snatch rescue, immediately grabbing the two persons from the water and back onto the land.

Sunday afternoon search teams were deployed from both the Watchet and Minehead Coastguard teams onto the cliff paths of North Hill, Minehead following a 999 call about a collapsed male.

The male who’s location was unknown had managed to make a call to a relative informing them that he had become unwell and had fallen and did not know exactly where he was.

Commencing from the shoreline as well as on top of North Hill, the Coastguards along with local Police Officers started searching the cliff paths.

They were joined soon after by the Coastguard rescue helicopter from St Athan in Wales.

Luckily for the male he had been heard calling for help by two walkers whom had been alerted by the low flying of the coastguard helicopter nearby and sighted him fallen down below the path they were on in deep vegetation and not visible to the helicopter crew.

The coastguard were then able to winch the male out into the helicopter and then landed at the car park above Bergundy Chapel, where he was then transferred into a coastguard rescue vehicle and transported to Minehead Hospital for treatment.

The Coastguard would like to remind anyone visiting the coastline to always inform someone of where they are going and times they are due back, as well as checking the tide times and where the high water mark is unknown seek local advice to ensure they do not get cut off.
