THE Roundabout at Ellicombe in Minehead has a new star attraction welcoming you into the town.

Last Spring, Minehead Town Councillor Gail Everett visited Chris's Crackers junk shop in Carhampton to enquire how much a stag would cost the Town Council.

Cllr Everett said: "After a short chat, owner Pete Marshall very kindly offered to donate a stag to Minehead.

"This is a wonderful gesture as they are sold for more than £700."

Initially the council wanted to place the stag on the island at Ellicombe, but due to Highway restrictions this was not possible.

However it was agreed that it could be placed on a mound west of the island.

A spokesman for Minehead Town Council said: "After many months of bureaucracy, a personal cheque for £150 from Cllr Everett and a £350 donation from the Town Council, a licence was granted by Somerset County Council.

"On Friday, January 13, our stag was finally installed and will become a Minehead attraction for years to come."
