MORE than 200 remote homes in Somerset and Devon are now benefitting from vastly improved internet thanks to a new voucher scheme.

Even some homes that cannot get phone signal have been connected to the service.

Under the Connecting Devon & Somerset voucher scheme, supplier Exmoor Technology carry out an initial survey to ensure a 4G service is available at the property and then install a specialised antenna & 4G router connecting to the EE 4G data network.

Jim Weir of Exmoor Technology said: "This technology provides faster internet to those who need it.

"Having carried out 4G surveys across Devon & Somerset, we have only found four locations we couldn't obtain a 4G signal and a speed in excess of 10Mbps to comply with the voucher conditions," he added.

Exmoor Technology says that across the 200 installations to date, using 4G download speed has greatly improved for users.

Councillor David Hall from Connecting Devon & Somerset added: "The success of the scheme highlights developments within the industry that present innovative and exciting opportunities in the delivery of broadband services.

"The success of the scheme was recognised in September by the Prime Minister and Iā€™m happy Exmoor Technology are able to share in this success.

"I am extremely pleased that a local business is making such a significant contribution, ensuring residents and businesses have access to best possible broadband speeds.ā€
