FIRE crews, Western Power and Red Cross have all been called to fight a fire in Dulverton.

Four fire engines from Dulverton, Bampton and Tiverton were called to the scene in Amory Road at around 2.30am this morning (May 1).

When they arrived, a fifth fire engine was called from Wiveliscombe to help.

The fire was on the ground floor of a two storey building, and crews got to work with breathing apparatus wearers and two hose reel jets to put out the blaze.

Western Power were requested to attend to make the electrics safe. Crews began using one main jet as well as one hose reel jet, and were checking for fire spread.

At 4am, crews began using positive pressure ventilation to limit further damage to the property. The British Red Cross vehicle was also called to attend the incident.

At 5.45am, crews called an end to the incident after extinguishing the fire using eight breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets, one main jet, ladders and small tools.

Crews checked the property and neighbouring property for fire spread and hot spots using thermal imaging cameras. The fire was started accidentally by a fault dishwasher in the kitchen.

The property sustained severe damage.
