A MOTORCYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital with a serious leg injury following a crash on the A358 between Williton and Taunton.

The crash happened shortly before 12.30pm today (Sunday, May 7) near Bicknoller and led to long queues in the area.

Firefighters from Williton and Minehead have been on the scene, confirming the collision involved a car and a motorbike.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "On arrival the crews confirmed that none of the people were trapped in the car but the motorcyclist was injured.

"Crews assisted paramedics in making enough space for the Air Ambulance to land, and also made the vehicles safe.

The road was closed for nearly two hours and traffic built up in the area.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the rider was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol for treatment for a leg injury.
