FIREFIGHTERS were called out to tackle a chimney fire in Williton's Long Street.
Fire control received a call from a passer-by advising that they could see a lot of smoke coming from a chimney of a thatched property shortly before 5pm yesterday (Wednesday, May 17).
The caller was concerned that the occupants had a chimney fire which could easily spread to the thatch on the roof of the property.
Two fire engines from Williton Fire Station and one from Minehead Fire Station were sent out to assess the situation.
On arrival crews confirmed there was a chimney fire but that the thatched roof was not involved.
Crews set to work with special chimney gear to extinguish the fire. They also used buckets of water and checked the roof and chimney for any hot spots, before duty of care was left with the occupant.
