MILLIONAIRE Butlins owner Peter Harris has been fined £12,000 for breaches of spending rules over pro-Brexit adverts he ran during last year's EU referendum.

Mr Harris spent more than £400,000 in the run-up to the poll on newspaper ads featuring a British bulldog in a Union flag tie.

But the Electoral Commission found that he had failed to deliver his spending return and audit report on time, and imposed its highest fine yet in relation to the referendum.

The Commission said former racehorse trainer Mr Harris had paid the fine.
