TREES at a popular walking site near Dunster are now being managed by the Forestry Commission.
The commission has acquired Nutcombe Bottom, as well as forestry near Taunton and in Bedfordshire.
The site, which is home to England’s tallest tree, will remain open to the public. The tree has been growing since 1876 and was 60.05metres when it was last measured in 2009.
Nick Salter, area forester for Somerset said: “We are delighted to now be managing Nutcombe Bottom and will ensure that it continues to be a lovely place to visit.
“We want people to continue to enjoy the site and hope that the changes we make will be popular.
“Our Community Ranger, Andy Harris, is available to answer any questions anyone has about Nutcombe Bottom.”
