A PLANNING application has been submitted that would see 139 new homes built in West Somerset. 

Grass Roots Planning Ltd submitted the application to West Somerset Council for the homes on land south of Doniford Road. 

The site lies to the south of Doniford Road in East Watchet and consist of approximately 10 hectares of agricultural land which comprises five irregular shaped fields that cross Normandy Avenue.

Part of the site is allocated as forming part of the Mount Fields Local Wildlife Site (LWS).

The plans include new access arrangements from Doniford Road to the north and to the south east and a new access road through the site north to south. 

The land is allocated within the council's local plan. 

The new homes will vary from one and two bed apartments, two/three bedroom houses and bungalows and four bedroom houses. 

The plan states that 35 per cent will be designated as affordable housing.
