THE former Somerset home of poet William Wordsworth has been sold at auction.
Alfoxton Park, an 18th Century country estate at Holford, near Bridgwater, was home to the poet and sister Dorothy between July 1797 and June 1798, during the time of their friendship with Samuel Taylor Coleridge.
Grade II-listed Alfoxton House, at the heart of the estate, was later converted into a country hotel, including numerous outbuildings on the site.
After the hotel closed several years ago, many of the buildings were boarded up and lay empty.

In November last year the estate, which housed evacuees during World War II, went up for auction with a guide price of just £500,000.
The property, including a tennis court, walled garden and deer park, eventually sold for just over £1.3 million.
A spokesman for auctioneer Kivells, which marketed the site, said after the auction: "Another amazing auction held by our Kivells Exeter branch this week with Alfoxton Park, Bridgwater, selling for £1,340,000.
"Amid the stunning Quantock Hills, a Georgian country house set in 55 acres with outbuildings, cottage and walled garden."
